A Season of Symphonies

The Washington Idaho Symphony is poised for an exciting new season with a new conductor, Jeremy Briggs Roberts.
Like every other conductor, Roberts wears a number of hats. He's also Music Director and Conductor of the Icicle Creek Youth Symphony in Leavenworth.

If you like to travel the conducting life may be for you! Dr. Roberts also served as Associate Conductor of the Philharmonisches Kammerorchester Berlin and has conducted orchestras in Paris, London, Moscow, Bulgaria and Romania. Maestro Roberts was a prize-winner at the 2006 Vendome Academy of Orchestral Conducting in Paris and has worked or studied with the likes of Gianluigi Gelmetti and Gerard Schwarz. If you'd like to hear my interview with Jeremy Briggs Roberts, click on this link to A Season of Symphonies.

The Washington Idaho Symphony opens its 38th season on Saturday, September 26th with the Symphonic Titans, featuring Mozart's Symphony No. 41 "Jupiter" profiled on NPR,and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in e.

The Mouse Tango

I came across this classical website today while referencing a particular piece of music. The name of the site, hardly evokes the kind of dignity, respect and - dare I say it? - pomposity that is often expected in the world of classical music but the results are often hilarious. Check out their clip section for more videos, including a lightning fast performance of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee by punked up Croatian pianist Maksim Mrvica and what I'm calling the "Salute to David Letterman throwing things off of tall buildings" approach to Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture." Enjoy!

Victoria Symphony Splash!

What a gorgeous setting for the August 3rd Victoria Symphony Splash! The concert includes a world premiere by local composer Tobin Stokes, the South Island Dancers and pieces premeired in 1858, the year of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia. The concert ends with Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" complete with bells, cannons and who knows what else?!
