A Season of Symphonies

Enriching lives for 70 years, the Victoria Symphony is the largest and most active performing arts organization on Vancouver Island. With concerts nine months out of the year there is something for everyone. Here is the full list of the Victoria Symphony's concerts. As you will discover it is a diverse and exciting season!

Among this season's offerings is a tribute to Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei, featuring Gustav Holst's
The Planets.

The Victoria Symphony proudly supports Canadian musicians and this season features Viennese born, Canadian pianist Anton Kuerti in a performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3. Other special guest artists include violinist James Ehnes and cellist Denise Djokic.

Plus you'll enjoy Roald Dahl's Little Red Riding Hood, take a Journey on the Orient Express and find out How the Gimquat found her song!

And don't forget about the Victoria Symphony Splash, one of the biggest outdoor concerts in North America! Enjoy!

Victoria's Symphony Splash

This Sunday the Victoria Symphony takes to the stage, or should I say the barge? Join the Victoria Symphony and Maestra Tania Miller for the annual "Symphony Splash," the largest outdoor symphony event in Canada and one of the largest in North America.

If you attend you'll be in good company. Up to 40,000 people attend the "Symphony Splash." It's definitely a family affair. There's a kid's splash zone on the lawn of the legislature with an instrument petting zoo, face painting and more.

The "Symphony Splash" begins at 4:00 with the Vic High R&B Band and at 7:30 Maestra Tania Miller and the Victoria Symphony take the floating barge, for a concert that includes "O Canada," "Pomp and Circumstance March No. 4" of Sir Edward Elgar, "Tara's Theme" from Gone With the Wind, "Rhapsody in Blue" by Gershwin Christine Wong, 2009 Young Splash Soloist and much more!

If you attend the splash I'd love to hear about it and see your photos. You can e-mail me at rilette@wsu.edu.

Victoria Symphony Splash!

What a gorgeous setting for the August 3rd Victoria Symphony Splash! The concert includes a world premiere by local composer Tobin Stokes, the South Island Dancers and pieces premeired in 1858, the year of the founding of the Crown Colony of British Columbia. The concert ends with Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" complete with bells, cannons and who knows what else?!
